Highly rated by wine critics and collectors , this iconic Cotes du Rhone is made in the heart of the region by Florence Cartier on her 17th century family vineyard on 60 year old vines. Exceptionally fine wine that has plenty of cellar life. Will benefit from being carafed in order to bring out the wine's full potential of expression and complexity. No chemicals are used at any stage of production and the vineyard is currently in Organic Conversion.

The domaine comprises 40 small plots which span the terraces and hills on the typical limestone and clay soil - with alluvial deposits. Florence Cartier produces a complex, richly elegant wine from a mix of 65% Grenache, 25% Syrah and the rest made up from a little Mourvèdre, Cinsaullt and Clairette.

Grapes are harvested by hand, de-stemmed and crushed very lightly before being vinified together. 30 day maceration before being aged for a year in 60% concrete vats and 40% in oak of 3rd, 4th and 5th year wines. No fining and no filtration.

Deep garnet red with hints of brick tile. Black cherry, prune and sweet spice nose with a mineral, stewed black cherry and prune nose with undertones of black olive, black pepper, nutmeg and paprika. Complex, elegant, ripe fruit finish with a little more sweet spice.

This wine will benefit from being poured into a carafe and allowed to breathe before drinking in order to bring out the complexity of the fruit.
