No Italian celebration meal is complete without a little drop of Vin Santo. This Half Bottle of pure joy is the ideal accompaniment to all rich and fruity puddings and works well with caramel and nuts.
In the glass
Rich amber colour, dried fig, quince, apples, dates and dried apricots vie for attention with a satisfying hint of honey on the palate and a sweet, smooth, persistent finish.
The grapes are selected before harvesting and laid out on mats in well-ventilated rooms to begin the withering process, which concentrates the sugars. After withering, the stalks are removed and the grapes are pressed. The must is then transferred into 70–100 litre chestnut casks containing very old, carefully selected yeasts that are checked every year. The wine matures for three years in these 70–100 litre chestnut casks.
About the vineyard
Tenuta Maiano is one of those vineyards that every importer hopes to find. The Nigi family are so committed to their land and their wine that they continually go the extra mile to produce one of the finest Chianti in the region. Fully organic for decades - the are constantly looking at ways to increase the eco diversity and to protect and preserve the delicate ecosystem. Their snail logo on their labels symbolises to them everything about the beauty of moving slowly through the world.
