Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru AOC En Orveaux 2015, Domaine Guyon
Last remaining bottles of this exceptional example of a Vosne Romanée made by the much lauded Jean-Pierre Guyon. The vineyard is run according to organic and biodynamic principles and he has his own highly labour intensive ways of managing the vines to allow maximum light and aeration.
The 2015 sits in its perfect drinking window and will do so for the next 8-10 years.
In the glass
A luscious mix of rich, ripe dark fruits, cherries and raspberries supported by sweet spices, a silky mouth feel with fine-grained tannins and a beautifully elegant finish.
Fourth generation winemakers of excellence farming only 8 hectares using traditional, chemical free, organic, biodynamic agriculture.
Vines are pruned as near as possible to budding time to respect the sap flow, the surface of the soil is ploughed, excess budes removed, the vines deleafed in a green harvest and the canopies tied to permit air and light to circulate freely.
In the winery, the grapes are treated with a hands-off approach with whole clusters and wild yeasts from the vineyard employed for fermentation. Each plot of Pinot Noir is kept as a seperate ferment with oxygen gently introduced through pumping-over.
Guyon takes into account lunar cycles at all points of the life cycle of the vines as well as adhering to the biodynamic principals governing specific times to work on the fruit, flowers, roots or leaves.
The Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru undertakes traditional fermentation in thermo-regulated steel tanks for 25-28 days then spends 10-14 months in 1005 new French oak barrels. The wine is bottled without filtration after racking and aged for a further 4 months.
