From one of our favourite vineyards, this 100% Grenache is made by Bruno Gigondan in his more than organic vineyard in the heart of the Cotes du Rhone.

Bruno uses 100% Grenache grapes grown on 65 year old vines to make this stand out red. The vines for this parcel are on the flat table lands so get plenty of sunshine. He uses wild viticulture - meaning he allows the vines to go their own sweet way - rather than using more common pruning techniques - and no chemicals at all are used in this 'more than organic' vineyard. One of only two vineyards to use the Hydro Agly process of demineralising rain water that is used in the special tinctures and tisanes with which he nurtures his vines. Outstanding in every way.

Deep purple colour with a black cherry, cardamom and pink pepper nose. Lots more cherries on the palate alongside blackcurrants, black olives and lots of herbs and spice. Long, smooth finish with elegant tannins.

About the vineyard

The tiny Domaine Gigondan is one of only two vineyards in France to collect, demineralise and recycle natural rainwater in the homeopathic preparations they use to treat the vines. Bruno and his wife Nanda believe in 'Wild Viticulture' where vines are left unpruned and to go their own sweet way. Every grape is hand selected and hand picked then reselected on sorting tables to make sure that only the very ripest and best go into the wine. These growers do what they do with such heart and grace - and they need our support as much as we need wines like these.
