The new Cuvée Prelude from Award Winning Domaine de la Verde in the Cotes du Rhone is not only a Critics favourite - it's ours too. A wonderfully harmonious red with traditional charm with a fresh, modern twist.
In the glass
Ruby red colour with purple undertones. Ripe, red berry nose with plenty of spice. Fruity currants and strawberries on the palate with complex notes of sweet spice, white pepper and vanilla. Smooth texture and beautifully round tannins on the finish.
What the critics say
90-92 points Jeb Dunnock.
"It has quality aromatics of ripe strawberries, mulberries, garrigue and spice. These give way to a medium-bodied, layered red that has fine tannins, notable balance and the purity and charm that are common in the vintage."
How it's made
Marvellous blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. The grapes are from old vines, which produce smaller yields of really intense fruit. Each grape is picked at optimal maturity according according to its place in the vineyard and sorted manually. Extremely precise vinification including a long, soft maceration. Each grape variety is vinified separately to retain their personality and temperature. Part of the Syrah and Mourvèdre spends 1 year in oak barrels before blending of the cuvee. Very light filter to ensure the wine retains all its natural character and personality.
Family run vineyard and the only one to use the La Verde appellation in the heart of the Cotes du Rhone. Beautifully sustainable vineyard with an emphasis on local biodiversity.
