Arguably the most well known estate in New Zealand, the Chardonnay is a good example of the talent of the producers and the wine a delightfully fresh, structured white with plenty of body and well-integrated oak.
In the glass
Elegant and finely structured, with aromas of citrus zest, white peach and nectarine layered with subtle notes of hazelnut, brioche and spice from oak. Concentrated yet vibrant palate, showing creamy texture, fresh acidity and a long, mineral finish.
How it's made
Hand-harvested grapes, whole-bunch pressing. Fermentation in French oak barriques (a proportion new), with indigenous yeasts. Partial malolactic fermentation and regular bâtonnage add texture and complexity. Maturation in oak before release.
Founded in 1985, Cloudy Bay was a pioneer of Marlborough winemaking and remains one of New Zealand’s most celebrated estates. Famous for putting Sauvignon Blanc on the world stage, it also produces outstanding Chardonnay from exceptional vineyard sites in the Wairau Valley.
