What does Reserva mean on a Rioja label?

Selected Red wines of the best vintages with an excellent potential that have been aged for a minimum of 3 years, with at least one year in casks. At the Reserva level, winemakers often age their wines longer than the minimum and select better grapes which is the case with this 2016 vintage from Rioja Alta. Many Rioja wine enthusiasts choose Reserva over other options, because they strike a good balance between the super fruity Crianza and more oakey-bottle-aged Gran Reserva.

How it's made

Made from estate-grown grapes harvested at optimal ripeness. Siblings Juan Luis, Maite and Diego Quiroga work closely together in their sixth-generation family vineyard. Destemmed grapes ferment in stainless steel with daily pump-overs and extended maceration for richness and colour. Aged 21–36 months in French and American oak, with racking every six months. Post-blending, the wine matures further in concrete tanks in the estate’s underground cellar, enhancing structure and quality.
