Grower José da Mato Capitao is a rising star of the Portuguese wine scene, using innovation to bring back virtually extinct grape varieties in his uniquely situated River Sado vineyards. Garnering attention from the critics for his fresh, joyous wines, these are wines to watch.

In the glass

Deep ruby violet colour. Intense, complex nose packed with ripe blackberry, plum and cassis. The Touriga Nacional grape provides violet overtones while the Cabernet Sauvignon adds a little green pepper, fine spice and cedar. Elegant and firm with a little chocolate on the finish. Ageing potential. Pair with grilled or roasted meats, game, pork and Manchego.

Grapes grown on clay-loam soils with high levels of both calcium and silica. They are carefully hand harvested and hand selected, to ensure only the best grapes go on to fermentation in 5000L oak vats at controlled temperature. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
